Node styles

Each node is formatted accordingly to its style. The style defines the appearence of the node: colors, shape and font of node, edges and clouds and also can add icons to node.

Introducing styles

Since Freeplane release 1.2, styles allow to:

• 1. change node style quickly through a new formatting panel (use View->Formatting panel to display/hide the panel, see screen capture:Media:Formating Panel.png)
• 2. change node style by choosing a style among styles list (use the combo "style" in Freeplane's main toolbar, see screen capture:Media:Styles - Combo.png)
• 3. define you own styles through a style editor (use Styles->Edit styles ..., see screen capture:Media:Styles Editor.png).

Originally each node has style "default". It can be assigned another style with solution 1 or 2 described above. If automatic layout is on, the node is assigned the style corresponding to its level. You can also automaticly format node using conditional node styles.

Changing style of a node

Changing the style automatically apply to all selected nodes the style format. The style format can be changed:

• by selecting a new style in the toolbar style list,
• by using menu "Styles->Redefine style": it re-formats the currently selected node with its orignal style.

Managing styles with the style editor

To open the style editor:

• use menu "Styles->Edit styles"

There you can see all defined styles some are provided by default. To add your own style:

• use menu "Styles->Edit Styles", styles map is displayed, then choose a style, right click, select in the contextual menu "Save as new style...", enter new style name. Result: a new style is added and appears in the user's styles branch.

You can now fully define the style with the right side formatting panel. Close the style editor. Your style is available in toolbar's style list.

Other style features

• you can change the display style order in toolbar's style list by moving style in the styles map / style editor,
• using action "Styles->copy styles...": copies styles from any mindmap which can be selected in the file selection dialog (import ?).
